8mm through the eyes & ears of Jim Fouratt
I’m posting these comments about the “Opener” EP by legendary cultural provocateur and critic Jim Fouratt because I love the way he paints with words:
“As if Jim Jarmusch stumbled on a reliquary containing post 9/11 soul sobbing. Sounds that stains the ear; fuels desire and resuscitates the heart. 8mm is a mirage of aural hope floating on a salt lake of loss seemingly close but never quite graspable. Aural scarification that neons survival.
----------------------- The rap song builds nicely ...showcasing the spirit and threat of this lovely Wim Wenders waif. And that spoken word song blew me away .. sexy and wet ..... and the guitar solo is juicy. 8mm ... so profoundly intimate”
8mm UNVEILED & BUZZIN'
I'm managing a new band and have not been this excited about something since my early days with Garbage. They're called 8mm and things are moving a lot faster than we all expected… The key musical component is producer/multi-instrumentalist, Sean Beavan, of NIN, Marilyn Manson and Kill Hannah fame. The frontwoman, Juliette Beavan, reminds me of a cross between Shirley Manson, Beth Gibbons and Fiona Apple in voice as well as persona. I would describe the music as a hooky, sexy trip-hop hybrid. Jon Bates of Mellowdrone describes them as "David Lynch does Sgt. Pepper," and proclaims Juliette to be "the next Blondie." I know it's my band, so I'm partial, but the songs are tremendously infectious, musically brilliant and Juliette's voice is almost voyeuristic. Even if I wasn't working with them, I would be playing them non-stop as I currently am. They received so much support from the creative community that we decided to self-release a 6 track EP. With literally only a few copies out there, KCRW's tastemaker, Nic Harcourt, just playlisted the title track off their stunning debut, "Opener," resulting in a very encouraging response on pre-orders for the CD. "Opener" is currently only available via their website. If you fancy an immediate look and listen, all the songs can be streamed there for free (please have a little patience while the songs automatically load). We hope you'll come by for a visit and welcome your comments on the forum if you're feeling it. www.8mmaudio.com
