Biography

Shannon O'Shea is the founder of SOS Management, a forward-thinking boutique firm specializing in producer management, artist development, and creative consulting. With decades of hands-on experience, she has earned a reputation as a rule-breaking visionary who builds careers that last and challenges the status quo in the music industry.

She founded SOS Management in the late 1980s with a focus on long-term creative careers rather than short-term cycles. Her work has consistently centered on recognizing potential early, encouraging artistic range, and supporting producers, engineers, and artists as their work evolves over time.

Beginning her career in London, O’Shea worked across underground and mainstream music during a period of rapid cultural change. While pop and grunge dominated the commercial landscape, she looked to alternative and experimental scenes for artists and producers whose work could move fluidly across genres and formats.

She is best known as the co-creator and founding manager of the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated band Garbage. In the early-1990s, Shannon partnered with producer Butch Vig and his collaborators Steve Marker and Duke Erikson to conceive the project from the ground up. She helped shape their distinctive sound, and executed an unconventional marketing and development strategy that allowed the band to break through the polished pop landscape of the era. Her bold approach helped Garbage achieve global success with their self-titled debut and subsequent releases, proving that innovative thinking could still cut through the noise.

At the helm of  SOS Management, Shannon has managed and elevated an elite roster of groundbreaking producers whose work has shaped the sound of modern rock and alternative music. Her roster has included heavyweights such as Butch Vig, Sean Beavan (known for his work with Nine Inch Nails, Guns n' Roses and more), Toby Wright (Alice In Chains, Metallica, Korn), the late Jimmy Miller (legendary Rolling Stones producer), along with talents like Michael Bradford, Danny Saber, Steve Marker, Jack Dangers, John Fryer, Stephen Lironi, and Tony Visconti. She brings the same passion for long-term creative growth to her producers as she did to Garbage, focusing on sustainable careers rather than short-term wins. Through her guidance, these world-class creators have collaborated with an extraordinary array of artists — from David Bowie, U2, Depeche Mode, and the Rolling Stones to Nine Inch Nails, Bjork, Chuck D, Pusifer, Primal Scream, Fiona Apple, and many more — delivering timeless records that continue to resonate.

Shannon has also been a powerful advocate for artists and creators. She served on the steering committee for the International Music Managers Forum in the UK, where she and fellow managers leveraged their collective expertise to negotiate better contracts with record labels and educate artists about their rights. She was the only manager invited to work with the US Music Producers Guild of the Americas (an arm of the Grammys), further amplifying her influence in shaping industry standards.

Her own development was guided by some of the most legendary figures in music management. Mentors have included Peter Grant (Led Zeppelin), Paul McGuinness (U2), Raymond Coffer (Smashing Pumpkins, Courtney Love), and Ed Bicknell (Dire Straits). Their influence helped shape her no-nonsense, artist-first philosophy and her commitment to doing things differently.

Today, Shannon lives in the US and continues to push boundaries with exciting new ventures alongside acclaimed producer Toby Wright. She is collaborating on his groundbreaking frequency-based sleep and healing app. It is designed to help people fall sleep faster and deeper; along with frequency blends for everything from anxiety to consciousness expansion to targeted physical issues. At the same time, they are developing The Supertruck — a cost-effective, mobile “super content creator” that lets clients stream live performances while simultaneously capturing a professional live album and high-quality video footage in one seamless operation. These projects reflect her ongoing drive to blend creativity with practical, forward-thinking solutions that help today’s musicians thrive in a rapidly evolving industry.

Whether she’s launching iconic bands, guiding world-class producers, advocating for fairer industry practices, or inventing new tools for content creation, Shannon O’Shea brings intelligence, decades of hard-earned insight, and an unwavering belief in the power of bold ideas. At SOS Management, the focus remains simple yet powerful: protect the art, support the creators, and always aim higher.
